Today, we delve into the legendary
Hunza Valley, the beating heart of the Karakoram Mountains, where history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes come together.
Our first stops are the
Baltit and Altit Forts, two ancient strongholds that symbolize the rich heritage of the region.
- Baltit Fort, over 700 years old, was once the residence of Hunza’s rulers. In the late 19th century, during the era known as the Great Game, this fort became a focal point of geopolitical intrigue between the Russian and British Empires. Fearing the expansion of British India, the ruler of Hunza famously wrote to the Russian Emperor, seeking protection—a vivid example of the complex geopolitical dynamics of the time.
- Altit Fort, even older than Baltit by several centuries, offers a unique glimpse into medieval life. Wander its narrow lanes, observe the timeless daily routines of local residents, and immerse yourself in the architectural and cultural treasures of this ancient settlement.
After lunch, we’ll continue our exploration of
Hunza’s traditions, savoring authentic dishes prepared according to age-old recipes.
In the evening, enjoy a delightful
dinner with panoramic views of the mountain peaks, paired with local tea and lively discussions about the day’s discoveries.
Afterward, we’ll travel to
Passu, where we’ll settle in for the night, surrounded by the stunning beauty of the region.
